Version: 25.3
The Measurement tool is implemented with a View, enhancing accessibility and providing improved visibility and control over measurements. For Site and Anywhere users, only the Length Measurement Tool is available.
Tip
To change the appearance of the measurement components access the Measurement Settings either directly from the Measurement View Settings icon or from File > Settings > Measurement…
Access the Measurement Tool via the Component Handling sub-menu below, or use the keyboard shortcut: 9.
Note
A complete list of the Measurement Tool Tips can be found at the end of this article.
When activated, the Measurements View appears automatically and defaults to the Length type, allowing users to measure between two selected points in the model.
The measurement type can be changed in the Measurements view.
The Measurements view can be accessed at any time from the Views dropdown menu.
-
Measurements appear in the Measure View panel, indicating type and value.
-
Users can toggle visibility for each measurement.
-
Users can toggle the visibility for multiple measurements by first selecting them and then clicking the visibility icon in the column header. (v25.3.1)
-
Measurements can be individually deleted from the list.
-
Highlight & Focus - Double-clicking a measurement in the table will automatically highlight and focus on the measurement in the 3D model. This helps with quickly locating and inspecting measurements.
-
Measurements can be saved by creating an issue. Each issue once activated will display its associated measurements.
-
Measurements can be copied using the Right click context menu items Copy value and Copy with unit (v25.3.1).
Copy with units pasted and displayed in Notepad
-
Length Measures the distance between two points.
-
Path Length Measures the total length of multiple connected points.
-
Angle Measures the angle between two lines or three points. It can also measure slopes of faces and edges with a single click. Press `Enter` to accept the measurement before selecting a third point.
-
Face Area Measures the area of an individual component face.
-
Polygon Area Measures the area enclosed by multiple selected points. Press `Enter` to complete a loop when selecting multiple points.
-
Volume Calculates the volume of a selected component.
-
Coordinate Displays the 3D coordinates of a selected point.
To create a length measurement, hover over an edge, vertex, midpoint, or face and click to set the starting point. Then hover over another point and click to set the endpoint and view the measurement.
-
The Length Tool automatically snaps to edges, faces, and points for accurate results.
-
Hold the Ctrl key (Cmd on Mac) to select and highlight an entire component. When selected, the measurement is taken from the nearest point on the component relative to the other measurement point.
-
Press the Shift key to constrain snapping to the horizontal or vertical plane relative to the first measurement point.
The Path Length tool works like the Length tool but allows multiple points. After placing the second point, continue adding more as needed. Press Enter to finish and view the total path length.
The Angle tool measures angles between edges, faces, or three points, and can also determine slope from a single click.
-
To measure a three-point angle, click on a vertex or midpoint to set the first and second points, then click a third point. The angle is calculated at the second point.
-
Hold Shift before clicking the third point to flip the angle direction. To measure a slope, select an edge or face first, then press Enter to display the slope angle.
The Face Area tool measures the net area of a selected face.
-
Click on a face to view its net area.
-
Hold the Shift key while clicking to measure the gross area, ignoring any holes or openings.
-
Measurement will be placed at the picked location (v25.3.1)
The Polygon Area tool calculates the area enclosed by multiple points on your 3D model.
-
Click to place points, then press Enter to close the loop and display the total area.
The Volume tool calculates the volume of a selected component.
-
With the tool active, click on any component to view its volume.
The Coordinate tool provides the exact XYZ coordinates of a selected point.
-
Simply click on any point in the 3D model to retrieve its coordinates.
