Moving and Rotating Models

In some cases, models from different designers might have different origins. If the difference is known or can be calculated, you can move a model and the software fixes the offset. Note that while it's possible to move and rotate a model in Solibri, it's not recommended.

Important

Positioning issues with models should be fixed at source in the authoring tool by the relevant parties. Go back to the authors of the IFC models to ensure that the coordinates of the models conform to the global coordinates of the project. If you use the Move and rotate models function to move the project internally, you may shift liability unless signed off by the relative parties in question.

Tip

To view the model's origin point:

  1. Right-click in the 3D view and select Show model origin from the context menu. If there are multiple models in the project, you should repeat this on each one to ensure the model origin aligns correctly.

  2. A coordination axis graphics shows the direction of the model in relation to the global origin:

Moving a Model to a Certain Offset

To move a model to a specific offset:

  1. Right-click the name of the model you want to move in the Model Tree view.

  2. Select Move or Rotate Models from the context menu:

  3. The Move or Rotate Model dialog opens. The current coordinates of the model are in the Current Model Location section.

  4. In the Move Model section, click Use Dimension Tool:

  5. First, click a point in the model you want to move. Then, click the corresponding point in the other model.

  6. The software draws a dimension line and inserts the distance in the Move Model section as delta values (ΔX, ΔY, ΔZ).

  7. Click OK and the model is moved to match the offsets.

Rotating a Model

To rotate a model:

  1. Right-click the name of the model you want to rotate in the Model Tree view.

  2. Select Move or Rotate Model from the context menu.

  3. The Move or Rotate Model dialog box opens. In the Rotate Model Around Point section, set a rotation angle in (Δ Rotation), or set Pivot Point coordinates:

    The software uses the rotation values to rotate your model.

    Note

    Movement of the project may be a more simple operation than rotation. Rotation should always be carried out prior to any subsequent movement due to the rotation around the models origin point. For structural and architectural elements this is difficult, but positioning services may pose a real challenge. Please ensure the correct location of models directly from the export to IFC.

  4. Click OK.
