This rule checks that walls, windows, and doors separating fire compartments have fire resisting construction types. The rule checks also that fire resisting wall, door and window types are not used elsewhere.
Important
This rule is irrelevant, if the Fire Compartments have not been specified. To specify Fire Compartments, use the Compartmentation View.
The rule parameters are:
Fire Walls, Doors, and Windows:
This table contains a list of fire protecting Construction Types for walls, doors, and windows. The types are considered independent of each other. That is, the Wall Type, Door Type, and Window Type columns do not form a relation. They are put into one table just to save space. You can also read values to this table from Excel.
Check Other Walls, Doors, and Windows:
When this is checked, the rule creates an issue if fire protecting components are used in walls that do not separate Fire Compartments.
Analysing the results:
The rule can create issues for the following reasons:
-
No Fire Walls: Fire Compartments have not been specified. To specify, use the Compartmentation View.
-
Non-Protecting Components in Fire Walls: A fire wall is not of fire protecting type or one of the doors or windows is not fire protecting.
-
Empty Openings in Fire Walls: Fire walls should not have unfilled openings.
-
Fire Resisting Components Used in Wrong Places: If fire protecting walls, doors, or windows are used in walls that are not on a Fire Compartment boundary, there is usually something wrong. Either the Fire Compartments are not specified properly, or the components should be changed, since fire protecting components are typically more expensive than the non-protecting ones.
