This rule checks the accessibility of stairs from different perspectives. It checks the number of steps, dimensions of steps, dimensions of intermediate landings, free space at the beginning, and at the end of the stair. Head clearance above and under the stair is also checked.

To use this rule, you must have stairs classified as Stairs in Vertical Access classification.
Vertical Access classification can be done in the Classification View.

Stairs to check:
Vertical Access Classification: Classification is used for classifying Stairs. The classification name for Stairs is used in Stair Classification Names Table.
Check Internal Stairs: A checkbox, when it is checked checks for Stairs inside the building. Location of the internal Ramps is specified in the Space Classification Names for Internal Stairs table
Check External Stairs: A checkbox, when it is checked checks for Stairs outside the building.
Internal stairs:
Space Classification: Classification used for classifying spaces. Classification names are set in the Space Classification Names table.
Classification Names for Stairs: The table specifies the classification name for stairs.
Space Classification Names for Internal Stairs: The table specifies the space classification names for the stairs inside the building.
Stairs:
Minimum Width: The minimum surface width of the stair.
Minimum Clear Width: The minimum clear width of the stair (Railings are taken into account).
Minimum Landing Clear Width: The minimum required clear width of landings.
Minimum Space at the Beginning: The free space required in front of the lowest step.
Minimum Space at the End: The free space required after the topmost step.
Minimum Clear Height Above: The minimum head clearance height above the stair.
Minimum Clear Height Under: The minimum head clearance height under the stair.
Minimum Intermediate Landing Length: The minimum length of an intermediate landing.
Minimum Number of Steps in a Flight: The minimum allowed number of steps in a flight. If there are two adjacent landings with different top elevations, the number of steps between them is considered to be zero.
Maximum Number of Steps in a Flight: The maximum allowed number of stairs in a flight.
Minimum Riser Height: The minimum height of a riser.
Maximum Riser Height: The maximum height of a riser.
Minimum Tread Length: The minimum length of a thread.
Maximum Tread Length: The maximum length of a tread.
Minimum Sum of Tread and Two Risers: The minimum sum of one tread length and two riser heights.
Maximum Sum of Tread and Two Risers: The maximum sum of one tread length and two riser heights.
Maximum Step Nosing Length: Maximum length of step nosing
Allow Open Riser: Are open risers allowed
Check Slab Connections: This checkbox, when is checked keeps track of that whether the connections to the slab are checked or not.
Handrails:
Check Handrails: When this checkbox is checked, then all stairs are checked for handrails.
Handrail On The Side: This parameter is used to select if stairs should have handrails on one side, both sides, or neither side.
Minimum Height Above Stairs: The minimum required height for handrails.
Maximum Height Above Stairs: The maximum allowed height for handrails.
Minimum Handrail Extension Beyond Stairs: The minimum amount by which handrails must extrude beyond the stair.
Handrails Must Be Continuous: When this is checked, handrails which have gaps in them will produce issues.
