This article describes how you can connect to the cloud-based Trimble Connect collaboration platform. With Solibri's Trimble Connect integration, you have access to the latest information directly from Solibri. You can open, save and update models in your projects without saving the model files locally. The Trimble Connect integration is available in Solibri v9.13.5 and newer. Please note that the integration is not available in Solibri Anywhere.
You can open the following file types in Solibri using Trimble Connect:
-
Model files:
-
DWG
-
IFC & IFCZIP
-
PDF
-
SMC
-
ZIP
-
-
In v9.13.8 and newer, you can also open and save resource files, which allows you to access and manage resources more effectively within the integrated environment.
-
You can open and save the following resource files: rulesets, ITO definitions, classifications, filters, BCF files, Excel reports and templates, hierarchies, materials, and IDS files
-
You’re able to store and manage presentation reports, including BCF reports, general reports (RTF, PDF), coordination reports (Excel), and ITO reports, within the integrated environment
-
Important
Note that to use the integration, you must be a valid Connect project member, have a Connect license, and have folder read permissions assigned to you by the Connect project admin.
The article covers the following topics:
To connect to Trimble Connect:
-
Open Solibri and select Integrations from the menu on the left. If you already have Solibri open, click File > Integrations.
-
Navigate to Trimble Connect and click Connect:
-
A browser page opens, and you need to authenticate the access by signing in with your Timble Connect credentials:
When the authentication is successful, you can close the browser.
-
Once authenticated, the Trimble integration will display your username:
Tip
To end the connection, switch off the toggle.
When you have enabled the Trimble Connect connection, a Trimble Connect tab will become available in the file chooser. You can open one or multiple files from the CDE at once. Opening multiple files works for .ifc, .zip, .ifczip, .dwg and .pdf files. You can't open multiple .smc files, but you can open, for example, an .smc and a .ifc file.
To open files from Trimble Connect:
-
Click File > Open Models. A dialog opens. Select the Trimble Connect tab.
-
Select the server from the Server drop-down menu:
-
Select your project from the Project drop-down menu:
-
After selecting the project, navigate to the desired file or folder below.
-
In the file chooser, you can see the different files and sort them by Name, Version, Size, Last updated and Updated by by clicking the column heading:
-
Double click the file (or select the file(s) and click Open).
-
The model opens in Solibri. For more information on the next steps, see Setting Model Short Name, Discipline and Category.
Tip
Additionally, Solibri shows the Trimble Connect files in the Recent Models list, as well as the Recent tab inside the Open Models dialog.
Tip
If you have already opened an SMC file, you can only add more IFC files (not open another SMC file).
Tip
When you open an IFC, PDF or DWG file from Trimble Connect, you can see the file version number in the Model Tree view:
Note that you can only save SMC files into Trimble Connect. To save models into Trimble Connect:
-
Click Save (if saving for the first time) or Save As. A dialog opens. Go to the Trimble Connect tab.
-
If you have opened the file from Trimble Connect, the file chooser remembers the project. If not, first select the server and project and then navigate to the correct file location:
-
Select the file location and click Save or Save As.
Tip
If you disconnect the integration, Solibri displays a warning which suggest that you save your progress before disconnecting.
You can update imported IFC models with new versions directly from Trimble Connect. You can select to update either a single IFC model or several IFC models at once.
Note that if you update models, you need to manually re-check the model to update the checking results. Issues that are not affected by the update keep their decisions, comments and snapshots. You can see the updated model in 3D when an issue is selected. You need to update the snapshots and other details in issue slides manually.
To update models from Trimble Connect:
-
Select a model/models in the Model Tree view. Right click and select Update Models from the context menu:
Alternatively, click File, then Update Models. The dialog below will then list all the opened models and you can select which ones you wish to update.
-
The Update Models dialog opens:
Select one of the three updating options:
-
Update: Requires you to manually carry out this task when you want to update any models. If the filename has changed (revision letter, date etc.) then the new version of the file will need to be located using the Folder icon () at the end of the row. This will need to be done for each model.
-
Automatic: Updates are done automatically in the background when the software is started, and during a session if the time stamp is changed. Make sure that the new version of your file(s) is located in the same folder where the original model file is, and that it has the same name. The software will update your model automatically.
-
Prompt: You will get a prompt when the update is available, and the updating starts at your convenience. Make sure that the new version of your file(s) is located in the same folder where the original model file is, and that it has the same name.
-
-
When you click , the File Chooser dialog opens. On the Trimble Connect tab, go to the correct file location, select the file and click Open:
-
Click OK.
Important
After any update or change to the Model Tree structure (IFC added or removed), Solibri will inform you that you have unsynchronised results. You will also notice that:
-
The rulesets are greyed out and reporting is disabled
-
Result Summary view is blank
-
The Results view shows the following message advising to run the check again: "Some models have been modified since the last check is done, please run check to see the results."
To proceed, you must click Check Model/Check Selected to run all the checks again.
