This rule checks the direct connections between adjacent spaces of user-specified types. The type of the required connection between the spaces can also be specified.
The rule can be used to check the direct connections between adjacent spaces of two user-specified types. For example, the rule can be used to check that each storage room space is connected by a door to an adjacent office space or that spaces with air-conditioning are not connected to spaces without air-conditioning.
The rule parameters are:
Spaces to Check (A):
This filter is used to define the spaces that are considered spaces of type A. Spaces of type A are checked for direct access to outside of building and direct access to spaces of type B.
Space Connection Requirements:
These space connection requirements are for specifying if direct access from a Space A to Outside is allowed, required or forbidden and what type of connection between a Space A and Outside is considered direct access.
-
Direct Exit to Outside of Building from Space A: This option is used to select if direct access from a Space A to Outside is allowed, required or forbidden. What Direct Access means is defined by "Type of Direct Access to Consider". The type of connection selected by "Type of Direct Access to Consider" is considered Direct Access between a Space A and Outside.
-
Allowed: When this option is selected and
-
"Any Door or Opening (A to Outside)" is selected, direct access by any door or opening is allowed but not required between a Space A and Outside. No issue is created here.
-
"Consider Doors (A to Outside)" is selected, connection between a Space A and Outside by only opening is not allowed, but a connection between Space A and Outside is not required. For example,
-
a Space A connected to Outside by a door and an opening is allowed.
-
a Space A not connect to Outside by anything is allowed because type of connection is checked if there is connection, but connection is not required.
-
a Space A connected to Outside by only openings is not allowed.
-
-
An issue is created for a Space A if it is connected to Outside by only openings.
-
"Consider Openings (A to Outside)" is selected, connection between a Space A and Outside by only door is not allowed, but a connection between Space A and Outside is not required. For example,
-
a Space A connected to Outside by a door and an opening is allowed.
-
a Space A not connected to Outside by anything is allowed because type of connection is checked if there is connection, but connection is not required.
-
a Space A connected to Outside by only doors is not allowed.
-
-
An issue is created for a Space A if it is connected to Outside by only doors. No issue is created for a Space A if it is not connected to Outside by anything.
-
-
Required: When this option is selected and
-
"Any Door or Opening (A to Outside)" is selected, direct access by any door or opening is required between a Space A and Outside. An issue is created for a Space A if it is not connected to Outside by any door or opening.
-
"Consider Doors (A to Outside)" is selected, direct access by at least one door is required between a Space A and Outside. An issue is created for a Space A it is not connected to Outside by any door.
-
"Consider Openings (A to Outside)" is selected, direct access by at least one opening is required between a Space A and Outside. An issue is created for a Space A it is not connected to Outside by any opening.
-
-
Forbidden: When this option is selected and
-
"Any Door or Opening (A to Outside)" is selected, direct access by any door or opening from a Space A to Outside is forbidden. This means an issue is created for a Space A if it is connected to Outside by any door or opening.
-
"Consider Doors (A to Outside)" is selected, direct access by any door from a Space A to Outside is forbidden. This means an issue is created for a Space A if it is connected to Outside by any door.
-
"Consider Openings (A to Outside)" is selected, direct access by any opening from a Space A to Outside is forbidden. This means an issue is created for a Space A if it is connected to Outside by any opening.

-
Type of Direct Access to Consider (A to Outside): This option is used to select the requirement for the type of connection from a Space A to Outside.
-
Any Door or Opening (A to Outside): When this option is selected, any door or opening between a Space A and Outside is considered Direct Access between them. This option also creates additional requirements in combination with "Allowed" under "Direct Exit to Outside of Building from Space A".
-
Consider Doors (A to Outside): When this option is selected, any door between a Space A and Outside is considered Direct Access between them. This option also creates additional requirements in combination with "Allowed" under "Direct Exit to Outside of Building from Space A".
-
Consider Openings (A to Outside): When this option is selected, any opening between a Space A and Outside is considered Direct Access between them. This option also creates additional requirements in combination with "Allowed" under "Direct Exit to Outside of Building from Space A".
-
Spaces to Check (B):
This filter is used to define the spaces that are considered spaces of type B.
Space Connection Requirements:
These space connection requirements are for specifying if direct access from a Space A to a Space B is allowed, required or forbidden and what type of connection between a Space A and a Space B is considered direct access.
-
Direct Access (Door or Opening) to Space B: This option is used to select if direct access from a Space A to a Space B is allowed, required or forbidden. What Direct Access means is defined by "Type of Direct Access to Consider". The type of connection selected by "Type of Direct Access to Consider" is considered Direct Access between a Space A and a Space B.
-
Allowed: When this option is selected and
-
"Any Door or Opening (A to B)" is selected, direct access by any door or opening is allowed but not required between a Space A and a Space B. No issue is created here.
-
"Consider Doors (A to B)" is selected, connection between a Space A and a Space B by only opening is not allowed, but a connection between Space A and Space B is not required. For example,
-
a Space A connected to a Space B by a door and an opening is allowed.
-
a Space A not connected to a Space B by anything is allowed because type of connection is checked if there is connection, but connection is not required.
-
a Space A connected to a Space B by only openings is not allowed.
-
-
An issue is created for a Space A if it is connected to a Space B by only openings.
-
"Consider Openings (A to B)" is selected, connection between a Space A and a Space B by only door is not allowed, but a connection between Space A and Space B is not required. For example,

Analysing the results:
The rule can create the following types of issues:
-
There is no direct access from Space A: This type of issue is created when a connection is required from a space of type A to type B and no direct connection is found to any space of type B.
-
Direct access Space A to Space B is forbidden: This type of issue is created when connections between spaces of type A and B are forbidden and a connection is found.
-
There is direct access without a door from Space A to Space B: This type of issue is created when a connection between spaces of type A and B are required to have a door and spaces with direct connection without a door are found.
-
There is direct access without an opening from Space A to Space B: This type of issue is created when a connection between spaces of type A and B are required to have an opening and spaces with direct connection without an opening are found.
